Acme Packet Net-Net Session Border Controllers Support ETSI Reference Architecture, Interoperate with Additional Mediation Platforms and Support Complex Call Scenarios, Providing a Wide Choice of Lawful Intercept Options for Service Providers

NXTcomm 2007
Booth #6051

CHICAGO - Acme Packet®, the leader in session border control solutions, today announced new lawful intercept (LI) capabilities and interoperability with new mediation platform vendors. The new capabilities include compliance with ETSI’s reference architecture for lawful interception in VoIP networks, interoperability with ETI Connect, Suntech Telecom Solutions and Utimaco Safeware and advanced call control support for all LI variants, including SS8 Networks and Verint. These new capabilities are part of the Net-Net OS® 5.0 release (see related press release Acme Packet Advances Access Border Control Functions) and build upon Acme Packet’s market leading capabilities in which the Net-Net session border controller (SBC) acts as an intercept access point (IAP) for real-time interactive IP communications such as VoIP.

With the release of Net-Net OS 5.0, Acme Packet’s latest operating system release, Acme Packet introduces its new lawful intercept interfaces for a model that aligns with the ETSI and 3GPP reference architectures for the provisioning and interception of VoIP traffic. These interfaces provide all the necessary information to the mediation function, which provides standards-compliant handover interfaces to law enforcement agencies. The reference architecture include the X1_1 interface used for pre-provisioning of target subscribers, X2 for capturing call identifying information (signaling content) and X3 for interception of call content information (media).

Acme Packet’s ETSI lawful intercept solution is currently being tested by service providers globally in partnership with three mediation platform vendors that are using Acme Packet’s ETSI-compliant interfaces:

* ETI Connect, a global provider of lawful intercept compliance systems for leading CSPs worldwide, is testing and currently integrating Acme Packet’s ETSI interfaces in Europe and the US.
* Suntech Telecom Solutions is a lawful intercept and operation support system provider for the Brazilian telecommunications market.
* Utimaco Safeware AG, a global vendor of lawful interception systems for mobile and fixed network operators and for ISPs, is currently testing Acme Packet’s ETSI interfaces for VoIP projects in Europe and Asia.

“ETI Connect is leveraging Acme Packet’s extensive experience in delivering control features to VoIP,” stated Chris MacFarlane, president at ETI Connect. “With this newest open provisioning interface, we are testing and integrating our joint lawful intercept solution at leading service providers worldwide.”

The Net-Net OS 5.0 release adds to the previously supported interfaces, including SS8 Networks and Verint vendor-specific interfaces and two dynamic provisioning interfaces—the PacketCable P-DCS-LAES header and an open, XML Acme Packet interface. With these provisioning interfaces, mediation equipment vendors can instruct the Net-Net SBC to intercept a specific SIP call, acting as an Intercept Access Point (IAP) for call data, call content or both.

Net-Net OS 5.0 now supports advanced call flows such as call forwarding, redirects, call transfers, three-way calling and media change (early media or initial announcement). Basic and advanced call flows are supported for all LI variants, including the newly announced partners. The latest OS also allows a single Net-Net SBC to support several thousand pre-provisioned targets.

“Our feature set to support lawful intercept for VoIP is extensive,” explained Seamus Hourihan, Acme Packet’s vice president of marketing and product management. “With the latest release of our session border controller, our products provide greater choice for service providers seeking to comply with lawful intercept regulations around the world.”

Demonstrations of Acme Packet’s lawful intercept solution will be featured during NXTcomm, June 19–21, 2007, in Chicago, at Acme Packet’s booth #6051.
